The Texas Theater
Located on South Waco Street near the historic courthouse square, the theater originally operated as a single-screen cinema before being converted into a twin-screen theater in the early 1980s. It served generations of local families before eventually closing in 2001.
After years of vacancy and preservation efforts, the building remained an important landmark in downtown Hillsboro. In 2026, the City of Hillsboro officially acquired the century-old theater with plans for restoration, community involvement, and renewed use as an entertainment and gathering venue. Current revitalization efforts focus on preserving the building’s historic character while bringing new life to downtown Hillsboro. For interest in the theater, please contact the City of Hillsboro at 254-582-3271.
